About the Opportunity: Construction accounts for 5% of our gross domestic product (GDP), yet remains a highly fragmented, largely un-automated industry that hasn’t fundamentally changed the way buildings are constructed for the past 150 years. At least forty cents of every dollar spent on a construction project is wasted, because of the lack of integration between the owner, architect, engineer and builder. On any given project an average of six months is lost because there is no “digital thread” continuously connecting each step in the value chain. In the multi-unit housing industry, not only are millions of dollars lost due to unnecessary project delays, change orders and material waste, but there is significant untapped potential to apply lean manufacturing principles, robotics and automation that have never been exploited. Until our client quietly started a building revolution four years ago, the construction industry had not yet benefited from the advanced manufacturing technologies, lean best practices and quality processes that have streamlined other industries, such as the auto industry.
About the Client: Our client has designed the perfect technology platform for the multi-unit housing market, and is now, literally, rebuilding construction from the ground up. Instead of a series of disconnected steps, our client has proven the benefits of a seamless process, linked by a continuous digital thread. The virtual model designed by the architect is identical to the finished building. Standardized components, precision manufactured from highly recycled content steel, are installed on-site exactly according to the architect’s original plan, without waste or onsite conflicts, and in far less time than wood, hot formed steel or concrete. Our client’s award winning proprietary modular construction system leverages a fully integrated BIM design software platform and light gauge steel building platform to dramatically reduce the time and cost of constructing multi-unit housing. With 60+ patents approved, and more than 70 in the pipeline, our client enjoys an enviable lead and niche in a nascent global opportunity to digitize the construction industry. Structural specifications and standardized, modular components meet stringent requirements for IAS certification and the International Building Code (IBC).
About the Position: Reporting directly to the CEO, the VP of Manufacturing will be a key member of the senior leadership team. You’ll spearhead the global expansion of our client’s manufacturing operations, e.g. sourcing, supply chain management, inventory control, EH&S, security, quality control, production planning, scheduling etc. You’ll have the opportunity to grow a highly talented team in building out a world class manufacturing capability around the globe that transforms an industry – from the ground up.
About the Successful Candidate: The successful candidate will inherit a highly motivated and entrepreneurial manufacturing team eager to help bring the company to the next level. You’ll have a Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of leadership in multi-plant manufacturing management, where you expanded manufacturing capacity, leveraging your production experience in material and production scheduling, ERP, lean manufacturing, digital workflow manufacturing and advanced manufacturing technologies. The successful candidate must have done this before. We’re looking for a leader who has ?brought robotics, automation and lean manufacturing best practices to help scale manufacturing from a handful of domestic manufacturing plants to a follow-the-sun global manufacturing operation.
